The 57-year-old man, on vacation in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez (Var) with his partner and friends, died last Thursday early in the afternoon, franceinfo learned on Thursday September 14. He initially felt unwell, before his partner found him unconscious. She notified the emergency services who arrived on the scene quickly and gave her a long cardiac massage, to no avail.
Victim’s name does not appear in emergency files
His wife then explains that the victim – who had been suffering from chest pain for several days – presented himself to the Saint-Tropez emergency room the same morning, but was not treated, despite a long wait there.
On this day, the hospital operates in mode “adapted” and only takes care of vital emergencies after advice from the Samu. The victim’s name does not appear in any file and, according to the Draguignan public prosecutor’s office, “No one in the establishment is, to date, capable of documenting this visit to the hospital.”
An investigation opened to “search for the causes of death”
The management of the hospital center explains that “the man did not leave when he found the door closed, he was well received and actually waited” on the spot. However, the hospital does not comment on “the care” of the vacationer. His partner assures for her part that her husband did not see any doctor that morning.
A judicial investigation for “search for causes of death” is opened by the Draguignan public prosecutor’s office. It is entrusted to the gendarmes of the Saint-Tropez brigade. The Regional Health Agency and the Saint-Tropez Hospital Center have also opened an internal investigation.
