On August 2, the young Lilou, 11 years old, died at the Brest University Hospital when she was due for back surgery. An investigation has been opened, France Bleu Breizh Izel learned Thursday September 14 from the family’s lawyer and the CHU, confirming information from Ouest-France.

Before she had back surgery“an intern carried out an intubation” but “an adverse event occurred during these anesthetic maneuvers which led to the perforation of the trachea and the diffusion of air into the thorax”, explain master Vincent Sehier, lawyer at the Nantes bar. A situation that he describes “terrible and rare.”

Many “negligence” observed

“Clearly, data was not well understood by the care team and emergency reactions, which could have been implemented, were not.” The lawyer believes that the teenager could have been saved “if a practitioner could have understood the situation” and thus avoidnegligence“. The hospital admitted to the parents that there had been “several errors”, but not “mistakes”.

The hospital did not do what was necessary in terms of communicating the medical file, regret the young girl’s parents. “Data such as vital constants in intensive care were not transmitted”, explains Maître Sehier. Parents are waiting “the truth” And “want human responsibilities to be determined. This is not a matter of compensation”insists the lawyer.

Contacted by France Bleu Breizh Izel, the Brest University Hospital explains in a press release “would like to extend our condolences to the young girl’s family. We share their pain at this time of mourning”. On the other hand, “a legal investigation is currently underway, therefore we are unable to answer questions”specifies the hospital.
