A 37-year-old Irish rugby supporter claims to have been raped on the night of Sunday September 10 to Monday September 11, in Bordeaux, where the Clover XV played its first World Cup match on Saturday. An investigation into “rape” was opened on Monday, announced the Bordeaux prosecutor’s office. The investigation was entrusted to departmental security.
The events took place in a street in the historic center of the city “around midnight”according to the victim, who was “found in the street by a group of Welsh supporters”, says the prosecution. According to the victim’s statements, she was attacked “by several authors”, who then fled. She was immediately taken care of by the Bordeaux emergency reception center for victims of aggression and a victim support association, “in English language”.
The Irish supporter was then heard in the accommodation she was renting in the neighborhood “by Irish police officers who were providing reinforcements in town” this weekend, during the Ireland-Romania match which took place the day before, according to the prosecution. Biological samples have been taken and others are also underway on his clothes. The images from the neighborhood’s video protection cameras are also being studied, again according to the prosecution.
