History, unfortunately, repeats itself. The Italian Football League announced the opening of an investigation on Tuesday, August 16, into racist insults uttered by spectators against Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. The facts occurred on Monday, during the Neapolitan victory in Verona (5-2), on the occasion of the first day of Serie A. The former Lille player scored his team’s second goal.

The sports judge of the League considers “necessary” that investigations be carried out “to specify the sectors in the south bend from which the first chants of racial discrimination started”.

Last season, for racist cries already targeting Osimhen and his ex-teammate Kalidou Koulibaly, Hellas Verona had been sentenced to play a meeting with a closed turn.

The Verona club was also fined 12,000 euros for the “insulting chants of a territorial nature” intoned “repeatedly” by his supporters against the Neapolitan tifosi, according to the statement of the decisions of the disciplinary committee.
