There will finally be a real investigation into the death of Kim Lavaud in June 2021. This 24-year-old young woman from Saint Jean de Védas died suddenly while she was stationed at the French Embassy in Angola. Kim Lavaud was struck down by a severe form of Malaria in a few days.
We’re dealing with arrogant people
For a year, his parents have been fighting to understand what could have happened in the care in particular. They pointed out many dysfunctions. “We are dealing with people who are terribly arrogant. The French ambassador to Angola came last summer to the France-Africa summit in Montpellier. He did not consider it useful to meet with us. I asked for a meeting phone the consul, which seemed legitimate enough to me to have some explanations. The only answer I got was that he felt he didn’t have to talk to me. As for the first secretary of the embassy, he is even worse, he does not answer at all. says François Lavaud, Kim’s father.
There are still so many unanswered questions
The opening of this judicial investigation should allow Kim’s parents tohave answers on multiple issues. “When did she get sick, why didn’t she have preventive treatment? Why arrived at the clinic, she was not followed properly? Why was there no repatriation? Why didn’t they call in military planes to evacuate him immediately as soon as they knew it was extremely serious? Why weren’t we warned? Why this message from some people who say it’s going well? Why ? Why ? There are so many whys actually? wonders the mother of Kim Christel Lavaud.
It’s the least we can do for her
“So we are aware thatthey didn’t want to kill her, but we remain on our position: we do not die of malaria at 24 years old. There was an accumulation of shortcomings which surely led to the death of our daughter and we would like to have the answers.” adds Christel Lavaud.
Kim’s parents are delighted to have been heard by the prosecutor. “This investigation is really the least we can do for her.” They are now impatiently waiting to be summoned by the investigating judge to give their testimony.
