An investigation into “attempted intentional homicide” was opened after the gunshot wound of artist Kendji Girac, the Mont-de-Marsan public prosecutor’s office announced Monday April 22 (Landes). In his press release, the public prosecutor, Olivier Janson, also confirms that the weapon which hit the singer in the chest was found during the day, and that it is now the subject of analysis.
From his hospital bed, the singer managed to tell investigators “that it was a shot that he described as accidental, which he himself caused by handling an 11 caliber automatic pistol, purchased shortly beforehand”. Not explaining “neither the circumstances of this purchase, nor the reasons which would have led him to handle this weapon in the middle of the night”investigations continue to reconstruct the course of the evening “through the performance of technical, ballistic and forensic examinations and the collection of testimonies”. The investigators also collected the testimony of the artist’s companion, who will be interviewed as soon as her state of health allows it.
In the press release, the prosecutor also returned to the circumstances of the tragedy. At dawn, the firefighters warned the gendarmes, after leaving the Biscarosse reception area with the injured man, that they had rushed to the Pessac hospital center “in serious condition”.
On their arrival, the police noted the presence of eighty caravans on the area, all belonging to members of the family or relatives of Kendji Girac.“The first testimonies collected seemed confused, both regarding the circumstances of the events and the exact location where they occurred”said the prosecutor’s press release. In this context, the Mont-de-Marsan public prosecutor’s office “seized the Parentis-en-Born research brigade and the Pau research section” as part of the opening of an investigation “under the qualification of attempted voluntary homicide”.
