The Lactalis group singled out by the online media Disclose which accuses the Mayenne dairy giant of “breaches of hygiene rules and control procedures” in several of its factories: presence of salmonella, pieces of plastic in grated cheese, storage of dairy products in the sun.
In Mayenne, the Craon site, sadly known to have been the source of milk contaminated with salmonella at the end of 2017, is still being talked about, details Marianne Kerfridun, one of the journalists behind the investigation: “when we went through the reports, that’s what shocked us, we were surprised to see non-compliances in the production of baby milk at the Craon factory, pinned down for a case of contamination at Salmonella Non-conformities, particularly in terms of vitamin content, are not necessarily harmful, but if there are thresholds set by the administration, that means that if it exceeds the thresholds, there may be a danger for food safety. And we also discovered that the group had added substances to the milk without mentioning them in the labeling. We did not expect to find so many malfunctions in this factory which had been the subject of controversy”.
In a press release, Lactalis explains that “Disclose refers to 4-8 year old administrative reports” and believes that “These claims are part of a partisan approach that in no way reflects the good sanitary quality of our products”. A judicial investigation has been open since October 2018 in the contaminated milk case, Lactalis is targeted for deception and involuntary injuries in particular.
