"It's not me"by Leos Carax, released June 12, 2024. (JEAN-BAPTISTE LHOMEAU)

The film, which is released in theaters on June 12, 2024, is commissioned by the Center Pompidou for an exhibition “which never happened”. The museum asked the filmmaker to respond in images to the question : Where are you, Leos Carax?”

The exercise clearly inspired the director, who delivers in 40 minutes an introspection in which he stages in a form that is both joyful and melancholy everything that constitutes his life, his inspirations, his work.

Childhood, in a variation around the father, fathers (Carax has many!), love, cinema, music, war, wars, those of yesterday and those of today, its admirations, his detestations and also his work, in bits and pieces, like reminiscences.

This exciting journey into the life of Leos Carax is taken in a form full of energy, humor, and narrative inventions. The director has fun with the viewer, facetious, never taking himself seriously.

The director plays with images, with words, in a patchwork which gives us as much the portrait of a man, of an artist as a variation around the passing of time, and this idea “that one day it will be like when we have already lived”with this fear “let my solitude, my imposture stand out before the world”.

An apple made eternal by the magic of cinema, dictators who gesticulate, singers, actors, words, puns, his dogs, a puppet, Femen, his daughter, Balzac in passing, Bowie. ..

In 40 minutes of breathtaking density, Carax offers us a journey into his world, which he unfolds in an incessant and joyful movement, irrigating this wonderful little film that we would like to take with us when we leave.
