An inmate escaped from the prison of Mauzac-et-Grand-Castang, in Dordogne, reveals France Bleu Périgord on Monday March 13. The man is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence. This is Philippe Dubois, sentenced on appeal in Nice for kidnapping and murder.

On his criminal record, this 56-year-old man already had a mention for escape. He therefore escaped again on Monday March 13, at the very beginning of the afternoon. The prison guards gave the alert, because an inmate was missing. The Mauzac-et-Grand-Castang detention center is atypical: semi-open, it accommodates men sentenced to heavy sentences. Philippe Dubois was first detained in another prison before being transferred to that of Dordogne.

A first escape mentioned on his criminal record

Philippe Dubois was convicted of killing his landlady and her son in Nice, in 2002. At the assizes, he was in the dock with two accomplices: Laurent Gauvin and his father, Patrick Gauvin. According to investigators, the two victims rented agricultural land and their income brought them more than 12,000 euros per month. This sum has fueled the lust of the three men.

During his first trial, Philippe Dubois was sentenced to life imprisonment. He was finally sentenced to 28 years, during his appeal trial in 2008. During these two trials, the defendant was defended in particular by the current Keeper of the Seals, Éric Dupond-Moretti. According to information from France Bleu Azur, Philippe Dubois was released in three years.
