An inmate from Valence prison escaped during an outing to the Upie zoo, reports France Bleu Drôme Ardèche on Wednesday May 4. An investigation is opened for “escape in flagrance” and the research section of Grenoble and the gendarmerie group of Drôme are seized, indicates the parquet floor of Valence in a press release. A search warrant and an arrest warrant are issued.
Tuesday, during this organized group outing, the detainee pretended to want to go to the toilet but never returned. A gendarmerie helicopter flew over the area to find him, in vain, reports France Bleu Drôme Ardèche. The detainee is still wanted.
He was sentenced for several facts at different levels of seriousness, explains the prosecution. In 2020, he completed serving a 15-year prison sentence for rape committed at gunpoint and extortion committed with a weapon. He is currently serving prison sentences for several offenses and has been convicted, for example, of traffic offences, drug offenses and damage to property and persons.
After several incidents in detention and a first escape in 2017, the detainee no longer had an exit permit until Tuesday. The prison administration granted him this cultural outing permit supervised by prison officers after his behavior improved. Incarcerated since November 2005, the man had been assigned to several establishments before arriving at the Central House of Valencia in May 2021. His release is scheduled for May 2025.
