If Canadian English television is of so little interest to anglophones in the ROC, according to the report recently published by the Canada Media Fund (CMF), why, in the first place, does this same fund grant it so much money, either twice as much as on French-speaking television, which produced 29 shows last year, in Quebec alone, which exceeded one million spectators? Barely two English-language shows have done so. The answer seems simple to me, the English-speakers of the ROC, these false Americans, have always preferred American television to their own.
It is interesting to learn that the Quebec nation loves its French-speaking television so much, even if it is often gibberish and peppered with anglicisms. It is an industry that supports, even transports, the ferments that are our culture and our language.
In Quebec, we are a real people with a unique language and culture that television brings together. Which, in my opinion, will never be the case for English speakers in the rest of Canada, multiculturalists above all.
Last question: if the money granted to ROC television by the FMC is used so little to broadcast Canadian creations, then what is it for? It would be much better invested in ensuring the survival of French, first in Quebec.
