Thursday, May 12, the section “an idea for France” presents an initiative. Called “Du Terter au terroir”, it allows young people from the suburbs to meet breeders, chefs…
“With a group of young people from my neighborhood of origin (…) we go to meet breeders, farmers, chefs, gastronomes”, explains Sofien Habibi, chef of the Du terter au terroir initiative. The high school students thus meet a breeder of Aubrac cows. “It’s always nice to see the different professions, and especially a profession that we are not used to seeing”, testifies Sankumba Sambou, 14, high school student in Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme).
Sofien Habibi brought together a dozen high school students from his neighborhood. He hopes to show them how to consume better, by eating locally. In the barn, the young are put to work by the breeder. “We make the litter so that the box is dry”, explains Hassna Chahib, 17, high school student. One of the young people present appreciates the bond with animals and is interested in this job, even if it seems hard. “We have young people who are more and more numerous, who are asking to come and meet people”, rejoices Sofien Habibi.
