A driver was killed by the police on Wednesday, September 7, as he ran into the police in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes). The day before, a passenger died in similar circumstances.

He is 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 7, in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes), when the police spot a stolen car and try to apprehend the driver. “They made a U-turn and drove towards the police vehicles. One of the two police officers opened fire and killed the author of the refusal to comply”, says Laurent Martin de Frémont, union representative Unit SGP-Police of the Alpes-Maritimes. A drama reminiscent of the one that happened the day before in Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine) during an anti-drug control. A passenger in a vehicle had been shot dead.

These facts pose the question of the use of firearms fire. Since June, eight people have died for refusals to comply. Shootings have increased in recent years and refusals to comply are increasingly violent. Police unions claim that law enforcement have become targets. “These are not refusals to comply, these are attempted homicides or intentional violence with a weapon”believes Mr. Laurent-Frank Lienard, lawyer for a police officer implicated. With each shot, an investigation is triggered.
