More contagious and resistant to the vaccine, the “Flirt” variant of Covid-19 is causing an increase in cases in France and Europe.
Seen as ancient history, Covid is experiencing a rebound in France. Last week, consultations for suspected Covid increased by 38%. Also, more than 2,000 visits to the emergency room were recorded, an increase of 40% in one week. The cause of this resurgence, a new sub-variant of the virus nicknamed “Flirt”, which is progressing throughout Europe and seems more contagious and resistant to the vaccine, but less aggressive.
No impact therefore, for the moment, on the intensive care units. But the decline in immunity raises fears of a significant increase in cases during the summer. The authorities recall that a vaccination campaign aimed at the most vulnerable began in April, and call for the continuation of barrier gestures.
