In Germany, Stars of David were sprayed on the doors of buildings and Molotov cocktails were thrown at the doors of a synagogue. Since the October 7 attack in Israel, hundreds of anti-Semitic acts have been recorded, reminding Germany’s Jewish community of the worst hours in history. She is shocked by certain celebrations which followed the attacks of October 7. In a district of Berlin, residents celebrated the Hamas assault.
The largest Palestinian community in Europe
Throughout the country, pro-Palestinian demonstrations are increasing, sometimes punctuated by violence. Germany is home to the largest Palestinian community in Europe, with 80,000 people. Many criticize the German government for its unwavering support for Israel. According to Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Germany has a special responsibility towards the Jewish people. The authorities have banned an association close to Hamas, as well as certain slogans heard in demonstrations, which is not enough to reassure Germany’s Jewish community.
