In Seine-Maritime, a landslide occurred on Saturday January 1, very close to the cliffs of Étretat. This is the fourth in less than a month. France Télévisions went to meet the witnesses of the scene and the residents.

Saturday January 1, it is 12:30 p.m. when Adam and his brother take a family walk on the Valleuse d’Antifer (Seine-Maritime), when they witness a landslide. “I was taking pictures of the debris from the previous landslides, and just as we were about to leave, I looked at the cliff one last time, and I saw [qu’elle] fell “, confides the young witness. In less than a month, this is the fourth landslide that has occurred on the beach. “Movements of this magnitude are very, very rare. We have from time to time small detachments in this area, but it is true that for a month, (…) it has been very, very consistent “, says Bernard Dherbécourt, who lives a few hundred meters away.

A hundred meters below, blocks of several tons of chalk covered the beach. The mayor of Tilleul (Seine-Maritime), Raphael Lesueur, tries with difficulty to enforce his decree prohibiting walks, at the foot of the cliffs. “I think there are still a lot of risks, so I think we have to be very careful for now”, he justifies. While waiting for new signage, caution is therefore in order for nature lovers.
