The Tour de France is back on the road after a rest day. the peloton leaves Carcassonne (Aude) to reach Foix, between the Occitan castles and the forests of Ariège, for the 16 stage of 178.5 km, Tuesday July 19. The breakaway got away very quickly and has serious contenders for victory with Valentin Maduas (Groupama-FDJ), Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora Hansgrohe) and the inevitable Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma).
Under a blazing sun, the riders attack the first difficulties on the road to the Pyrenees. After a hundred relatively flat but uneven kilometers, two big climbs await the teams. The formidable port of Lers and the wall of Péguère are notably on the program for this day. The Jumbo-Visma of the yellow jersey, Jonas Vingegaard, finds himself weakened after the abandonment of Primoz Roglic and Steven Kruijswijk on Sunday.
