Since Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have been promoting the release of this project, we can only be a little disappointed before even hearing it. Only 32 minutes? We would have taken twice as much of this 1970s R&B tribute! The pleasure was transmitted, from their studio to our eardrums: a delicious retro candy, limit fetishist (even in the skins of the drums of .Paak, a real maniac!), Celebrating the legendary sound of the greats of the time, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, the end of the Stax and Motown era, with a special bow to orchestral soul from Philadelphia. The voices of the two performers – silky at Mars, hoarse at .Paak – complement each other wonderfully on these carefree songs about flirtation and celebration, enhanced by orchestrations faithful to the original sound. And to tie it all together, the suave and comical voice of the great Bootsy Collins, bassist of Parliament-Funkadelic, another funk monument to which the duo winks. From grooves that make you smile.
