Nearly 40,000 people and 11,000 caravans took up residence in Nevoy, in Loiret, on Thursday May 11 for a religious gathering. Their vehicles encroach on the fields of residents of the town, who are impatient with the situation.
Caravans as far as the eye can see in Nevoy (Loiret). The evangelical mission expected 25,000 people for this gathering, they are finally 38,000. Every day, a waste collection is organized, but the crowds are such that the nuisances multiply. The 130-hectare land that belongs to the rally organizers is no longer enough. Caravans have forced the passage to settle on the other side of the road on private fields.

“No respect for our paths, no respect for our territory. People call me all the time, it’s open-air toilets”, protests the mayor of Nevoy, Jean-François Darmois. 250 gendarmes are present there to ensure the security of the site at the request of the prefecture. For more than three decades, this gathering of the Traveler Church had been proceeding without too much difficulty. But the crowds are now such that the organizers want to expand, in particular by buying other land. A perspective rejected by local elected officials.
