Four years ago, rue de Trévise in Paris, an explosion claimed hundreds of victims. Even today, several hundred victims are still trying to obtain compensation.

A small street in the heart of Paris. On January 12, 2019, a gas explosion blew through the neighborhood, killing four, 66 injured and nearly 400 victims, destinies shattered. Today, the rue de Trévise still lives to the rhythm of the works. For those who lived or worked there, these are four years of ordeal, and a memory still alive. Ameroche Tahir, maintenance worker in a hotel, was having his coffee when everything exploded. Seriously injured, he will again be operated on.

The judicial investigation is far from over

That morning, others were not injured but left everything behind, like a couple whose apartment remains inaccessible. They have been renting accommodation in the neighborhood for more than four years, with their children, partly at their own expense. “At first, the credit continued to run, and the rent had to be paid“, says Florent Salesses, victim of the explosion. “It’s a whole way of life that has changed“, adds his wife.

They hope to return to their apartment within two years and have just received the first aid thanks to an agreement signed in 2022: 20 million euros provided by the city of Paris for the victims. The judicial investigation is far from over. According to initial reports, a series of malfunctions led to the disaster.
