Maude Aimée-Leblanc started Sunday four shots off the lead at the Palos Verdes Championship in California. She had her worst day of the tournament, however, posting a 74 (+3) card and finishing well off the top of the standings.
The Quebecer thus finished tied for 33rd, with a cumulative score of 283 (-1).
After a haphazard start, where she scored two bogeys in the first three pennants, Leblanc pulled herself together with a birdie in the seventh. However, it was the double bogey she committed at the 12th pennant that ruined her day’s work. She still managed to subtract a normal shot at the end of the course, in the 17th.
American Marina Alex triumphed on Sunday thanks to her best performance of the week, a round of 66 (-5). She took advantage of the defeat of the Australian Hannah Green, leader after 54 holes, who had to settle for a second consecutive card of 72 (+1). Alex hit the white object 274 times (-10), just ahead of South Korean Jin Young Jo (-9).
Jon Rahm narrowly wins
Spaniard Jon Rahm barely held on to first place at the Mexico Open on Sunday at Vifanda, winning his seventh PGA Tour by virtue of a narrow one-shot lead.
This is his first triumph since the United States Open on June 20, 2021.
With a card of 69 – his worst in the competition – he claimed a cumulative score of 267 (-17). His closest pursuers after three rounds, Cameron Champ (70) and Kurt Kitayama (68), also had tough days, paving the way for him.
Americans Brandon Wu and Tony Finau both gave the best card of the day at 63 (-8). Since they were tied after 54 holes, they climbed together 15 rungs to take second place at 268 (-16), alongside Kitayama.
The only Canadian in contention for the weekend rounds, Michael Gligic (67) started his round badly with a bogey. He then managed five birdies without committing any additional missteps. He finished 24th, at 275 (-9).
His compatriots Nick Taylor, Adam Svensson, Roger Sloan and David Hearn were unable to avoid the ax on Friday.
