An employment safeguard plan agreement (PSE) was found on Wednesday July 12 for the employees of the Buitoni factory in Caudry (Nord), France Bleu Nord reported on Monday July 17. This PSE provides for the redeployment of ten of the 113 employees and better departure conditions for the other employees. At the end of March, the Nestlé group announced the permanent closure of the factory, after the scandal of pizzas contaminated with E. coli bacteria.

For Stéphane Derammelaere, FO delegate, the agreement is rather positive despite the closure of the factory: “The measures are financially attractive for employees“who can, according to him,”leave armed. Now they know what they can do, what they can claim“.”As long as the agreement was not signed it was complicated for them“, he adds.

Still according to France Bleu Nord, several employees have planned to meet on their camp, installed in front of the factory since the beginning of March. They must stay there until Wednesday, July 19. A balloon release will also be organized that day at 10 p.m. before the camp closes. Two children died and dozens of others fell seriously ill after the ingestion in 2022 of pizzas from Buitoni’s Fraîch’Up range, manufactured in its factory in Caudry (North). At the end of March 2023, Nestle announced the permanent closure of its Caudry factory, which had partially restarted in mid-December, citing the drop in sales.
