An EGYPTOBUS roaming in the Pas-de-Calais to meet the inhabitants

A car podium transformed into a traveling “museum”

From October 15, 2022 to January 15, 2023, the Louvre-Lens museum
and the department of Pas-de-Calais
in partnership with France Bleu Nord launched the Egyptbus

Inside, you can experiment with new mediation devices, created for the Champollion exhibition currently on display at the museum: “Champollion. The path of hieroglyphs!”

Inspired by the ancient model of the Library of Alexandria and its mouseion, a distant ancestor of museums, the Egyptbus offers the inhabitants of Pas-de-Calais a plural experience based on multiple devices: around fifteen moldings from the Louvre workshops will allow visitors to get to know the great masterpieces of the Department of Egyptian Antiquities, including the famous Crouching Scribe , a virtual reality device will offer a journey of almost 10 minutes in the temple of Abu Simbel as Champollion explored it in 1828, a selection of books and games for all ages will be made available to deepen the immersion .

A true signature of the Louvre-Lens, human mediation adapted to all audiences will meet there every day for students, people with reduced mobility or with disabilities, children and toddlers, families and all public.

Arranged by the museum’s scenographer, the interior space of the Egyptbus, fully modular, can be deployed in an exhibition space, in a reading room, in a workshop room. Two “tipyramides” specially designed for the youngest children and their parents will be able to welcome Egyptian dreams, to the rhythm of readings enriched with activity mats and story cubes.

Like the museum’s program and the quality of its exhibitions, the Egyptbus will therefore offer all the wealth of experiences that the Louvre-Lens reserves for its audiences, outside its walls, by presenting high-quality historical and cultural content, accessible to all.
