An earthquake shakes Abitibi-Témiscamingue | The Press

A magnitude 3.7 earthquake took place overnight from Monday to Tuesday in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

Earthquakes Canada first reported the event, which took place at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, on Twitter, indicating that a magnitude 4 earthquake had occurred in the Val-d’Or area.

The federal agency specified on its website that the earthquake took place between Rouyn-Noranda and Malartic, and that it reached a magnitude of 3.7 on a scale of 9.

According to Earthquakes Canada, an earthquake of this magnitude is “often felt, but rarely causes damage”. Two other comparable earthquakes, both of magnitude 4.1, occurred in the region last year.
