An awareness campaign warns of the dangers faced by motorway patrol officers. In March, one of them was killed in the Alpes-Maritimes.
On the sides of a highway, we can see wrecks of vans, windows broken. These are the 24 highway agent vehicles hit since the start of the year. Exposed to everyone’s view, they must alert motorists and invite them to respect safety rules in the event of an intervention. Despite the rules in force, every week, one of these vans is hit, as in 2019. Another vehicle was narrowly avoided by a truck, according to video surveillance images. Last March, a highway agent was fatally struck.
Like him, the patrollers are directly exposed. “We must always be hyper-vigilant, keep an eye on the road behind us when we are on intervention or when we get out of the vehicle,” explains an agent. This awareness campaign will last all summer. Vinci Autoroutes calls for the greatest caution as the major holiday season approaches.
