“In the West, nothing new”, a German film about the First World War, won seven awards at the Bafta ceremony in the United Kingdom on Sunday February 19. “It’s the story of young men who are conscripted by right-wing nationalists and go to war thinking it will be adventure. And war, of course, is anything but adventure”, explains Malte Grunert, the producer of the film. This apology for anti-militarism is also multi–nominated for the Oscars.

In Germany, the carnival denounces the war

In Germany, it is the carnival that criticizes the war. In Mainz, Russian President Vladimir Putin is pictured in a bathtub, washing himself with Ukrainian blood. After two years of absence, the carnival wants to silence the guns.

The Swiss are not concerned about the ecological impact of carnival. Thousands of confetti and tons of waste fill the streets. But after two years of shutdown due to Covid-19, it is difficult to ban the party.
