In the massifs, the Pyrenees and in Andorra, a lot of snow fell in 24 hours between Sunday 9 and Monday 10 January. Lows could affect roads and ski areas.
After a night of complete paralysis on the roads of the Ariège Pyrenees, a few kilometers from the principality of Andorra, it was the hour of deliverance for many motorists, Monday January 10. The day before, several hundred vehicles were trapped by heavy snowfall. Some roads still bear the traces of this snowfall of an exceptional magnitude.
“We were stuck since yesterday, 3pm”, says a motorist. Others must have slept in the hotel. Monday evening, most of the roads are passable again, but the authorities urge caution in the face of the instability of the snowpack. Mudslides occurred and portions of the road were flooded. Throughout the Pyrenees, the risk of avalanches is very high. In a ski resort, several preventive avalanches were set off in the morning with explosives.
