An autumn loaded with orange cones

Extension of the Blue Line, REV, Île-aux-Tourtes Bridge: some fifty major construction sites will disrupt traffic in Montreal next fall. September will be one of the busiest months, particularly for Highway 40 West.

In total, the City of Montreal will manage no fewer than 1,000 construction sites on 880 sections. For its part, Mobilité Montréal has around a hundred construction sites under its supervision.

“There are more construction sites, but there are fewer cones,” explained the administrative spokesperson for the City of Montreal, Philippe Sabourin, at a press conference Wednesday morning.

The West Island will experience a busy month of September with closures of Highway 40 including the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge expected for several weekends, namely those of September 6 and 20. Highway 40 West will experience a third complete closure during the weekend of September 13 between the A-15 and the A520.

The extension of the blue line with the start of excavation work will disrupt traffic on Jean-Talon Street East by causing complete closures near the intersections of Pie-IX, Viau and Langelier Boulevards.

Traffic on Christophe-Colomb Avenue will also be disrupted with a closure between Rosemont Boulevard and Saint-Grégoire Street until September 5. It will also be blocked until November between Jean Talon and Jarry Streets. The intersection of Christophe-Colomb Avenue and Jean-Talon Street will be completely closed until mid-September.

Three construction sites will disrupt traffic in the heart of the metropolis on Route 136. They will notably cause the closure of exit No. 3 towards the city center. Exit No. 3 towards Guy Street will remain closed until the end of the year.

Several street closures will also affect downtown traffic until mid-November with the closure of Sainte-Catherine Street West between Stanley and Mansfield streets, that of Peel Street, between De Maisonneuve and René-Lévesque boulevards and that of Metcalfe Street between De Maisonneuve and René-Lévesque boulevards.

Boulevard de Maisonneuve will also be closed between Rue Parthenais and Avenue De Lorimier until mid-November.
