The Vagdespoir association shows young people with disabilities that they too can surf the waves. Valérie Heurtel presents this initiative, Thursday July 6th.
Ismaël Guilliorit, founder of the association Vagdespoir, takes young people with disabilities to the waves, to prove to them that they can do anything. Having amputated his right leg at the age of 8, suffering from cancer at the age of 11, the founder of the association is snowboarding. Near Royan (Charente-Maritime), the one who calls himself the pirate takes young people battered by life. The children, in confidence, progress on the surfboards. The able-bodied and young people with disabilities gather around this sport and learn mutual aid.
Antennas present all along the coast
The Vagdespoir association has branches all over the coast and is looking for volunteers. To start surfing, Ismaël Guilliorit tinkered with his prostheses to adapt them, but not everyone is able to do it. In Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), there is a workshop where “people with disabilities can make and adapt their prostheses”explains Valérie Heurtel, present on the 13 Hours set, Thursday July 6.
