The “An idea for France” section of 13 Hours takes you, Thursday, June 29, to discover, among other things, an association in Normandy which invites walkers to pick up plastic waste lying around the banks of the rivers.

That day, walkers start their day with a bucolic bike ride along a river. However, they also collect waste. This is the idea for France of an association which wishes to collect all the plastic waste in the rivers before it arrives at sea. The members of the association deposit bins along the paths. The principle is simple: passers-by are invited to drop off all the waste they find near the river.

Recover plastics at source

The waste is then recovered and recycled. The initiative is all the more important since 80% of the plastics found in the oceans are carried by rivers. The logic is simple: you might as well tackle the problem at the root. Indeed, it is easier to recover them at the source than to go to sea to collect them.
