The identity of the 38-year-old man has not been disclosed by the Sûreté du Québec since he is not yet formally accused, but the latter should appear during the day at the Sherbrooke courthouse.

The murder of Jeannine Perron Ruel, an apparently uneventful grandmother, had shocked in the vicinity of the rue de la Rivière in Coaticook.

Mme Perron Ruel was on her way home from shopping for groceries when she was shot. Neighbors had told TVA Nouvelles that she had possibly been hit in the back of the head by projectiles, while she was facing her attacker.

Four cartridge cases were found on the ground as a result of the crime.

The mayor of Coaticook, Simon Madorre, was dismayed after the tragedy. “It’s a super quiet corner, where a lot of old people stay. I am quite devastated to know that this is happening in our small town, ”he confided to the Journal of Montreal.

Several neighbors had confided not having heard or noticed anything abnormal at the time of the tragedy.
