An armed man in southern Gaspésie

Gaspésie is on alert: the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) reported the presence of an armed and dangerous man near Saint-Elzéar-de-Bonaventure, a municipality in the south of this region. He was reportedly seen at the corner of Central Road and East Road.

The alert was launched around 3:30 p.m. Friday and sounded the emergency ringtones of Quebecers’ cell phones.

The SQ advises citizens to avoid the area, which is about a 20-minute drive north of New Carlisle and Paspébiac. Police also advise to stay indoors, lock doors and stay away from windows.

The suspect is a thin, white male, approximately 5ft 10in (1.78m) tall with brown hair and green eyes.

He wears jeans, a black sweater with a “Jack Daniels” logo and motorcycle boots.

Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911 immediately and not attempt to approach him.
