Athletes are often the target of hate messages on social networks. To protect them, an application will make it possible to fight against cyberbullying, a first in the history of Roland-Garros.

After each match, lost or won, athletes are the target of an outpouring of hatred on social networks. This is the case of Alice Tubello, a 22-year-old professional tennis player. “It can be all, these are lots of insults, on my parents, (…) ‘I will find you, I will kill you’, these are threats. Sometimes it can be creepy and it’s not pleasant”she says.

Artificial intelligence to fight hate messages

To fight against this violence, a digital solution is offered to players during the Roland-Garros tournament. All messages received will be analyzed by an artificial intelligence capable of recognizing and deleting hateful messages. Digital harassment is a weapon used by bettors to raise or lower the odds. The French tennis federation has therefore decided to protect the players.
