On behalf of three environmental associations, former Environment Minister Corinne Lepage is challenging the reauthorisation of the pesticide’s marketing before the European Union.

This is her fight. Corinne Lepage, former MEP, filed an appeal on Friday, August 2, at the Court of First Instance of the European Union against the regulation that extended the marketing authorization for glyphosate by ten years. A decision by the European Commission in November 2023, which the former Minister of the Environment finds “surprising”since it extends the authorization by ten years, “while the previous one lasted 5 years, and then because it places the burden of all the precautions to be taken on the Member States”.
The lawyer was tasked with filing this appeal by three associations, Criigen (Independent Research and Information Committee on Genetic Engineering), the Association of Anti-Pesticide Mayors and the association Agir pour l’Environnement. They point out the danger of the herbicide, classified as a probable carcinogen by the World Health Organization (WHO), several scientific studies also prove its seriousness for humans and biodiversity. They hope for a response by mid-October and a decision during the year 2025.
