More than 700,000 visitors climb Mont Ventoux each year, by bike, on foot, by motorbike or by car. Sometimes, in high season, things get stuck: there are too many people on the summit or in the car parks. To avoid traffic jams and the souvenir photos ruined by too many tourists, the Ventoux Regional Nature Park has released a new tool. An application called “Affluences”, which allows you to manage flows in real time.
Thanks to her, we know live parking occupancy rate on the Ventoux: South car park from Bedoin, North car park from Malaucène. The idea, the Park tells us, is to avoid saturation of the car parks, to make the outing more pleasant and comfortable and to preserve the summit of Ventoux.
The company “Affluences” uses counters, infrared and 3D videos. The stated objective is to “democratize traffic information and make it as accessible as the weather”. Its founder had the idea when he was a student and he had trouble finding a place in the library of his university. Other sites are already using this app: universities, swimming pools, museums, libraries. An additional tool also allows you to know how long the queue lasts to enter these establishments. Here, there is no question of reserving your place as for the Calanques in Marseille. But it is still an attempt to regulate tourist attendance sometimes damaging for the Ventoux.
