The “anti-ZAD cell” of the Ministry of the Interior, announced by Gérald Darmanin in April, was officially created at the beginning of September, according to a letter from the ministry to the prefects dated September 25 and consulted by France Télévisions on Thursday October 5. This team, made up of five lawyers, has the mission “to accompany” the prefects “in order to prevent the constitution” areas to defend and “ensure their dismantling”, writes the minister in this letter.

“You will be able to request it on all aspects of this subject (definition of a strategy to prevent or put an end to a ZAD, phasing and implementation of procedures, security of acts and support for litigation defense, repressive aspect… )”, details Gérald Darmanin. The latter argues that“there are 300 groups protesting development projects likely, for the most virulent among them, to adopt this increasingly widespread form of militant action.” The Minister of the Interior announced the creation of this unit following demonstrations against the mega-basins in Saint-Soline.
