In Douarnenez, on Saturday May 6, several dozen demonstrators prevented tourists from disembarking from their cruise ship. These activists denounce in particular mass tourism and its harmful consequences on the environment.

They gathered in the harbor to the sound of pots and pans to protest the arrival of a cruise liner. In Douarnenez (Finistère), on Saturday May 6, pro-climate activists prevented hundreds of tourists from docking, remaining off the coast aboard a ship. This action aims to denounce the impact of these giants of the seas on the environment. “Perhaps there are people who do not realize their actions and their impact on nature. […] We have to manage to limit ourselves”assures an activist.

Multiplying operations

In the morning, only a handful of tourists, mainly Americans, were able to disembark. “They have the right to have their opinion, but we don’t kill whales. We don’t harm the environment”, assures a vacationer. In recent months, these anti-cruise actions have multiplied. Anger is mounting against these mega-ships, deemed too polluting. In Douarnenez, the action is especially regretted by the traders. Symbolically, a newsstand has put his business up for sale.
