Among specialized doctors, fee overruns are becoming increasingly high and frequent. The UFC-Que Choisir association is concerned about these practices after the publication of an investigation on Thursday February 22.
More and more specialist doctors are charging excess fees. Amounts, beyond the social security rate, are rarely reimbursed by mutual insurance companies. “I have two of my children, including my son, who are being treated for an attention disorder by a psychiatrist. We have an out-of-pocket cost of more than 70 euros per consultation”indicates a mother.
A survey analyzes prices
The UFC-Que Choisir association has targeted the prices of eight liberal specialties in 2022. More than half of these professionals overcharge their fees. A dermatological consultation cost on average 51 euros in the Rhône and 70 euros in Paris, a far cry from the basic rate of 30 euros practiced in the Meuse. The disparities worry the association, which emphasizes that the main risk “is that of a renunciation of care for financial reasons”.
