An agreement in principle has been reached between Air Transat and the union which represents the airline’s 2,100 flight attendants, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced Sunday evening.
In a press release, the union specified that general union meetings will take place in the coming days in order to present the content of the agreement in principle aimed at renewing the collective agreement to the flight attendants concerned. Union members will then vote.
Remember that the collective agreement for these flight attendants based at Montreal (YUL) and Toronto (YYZ) airports expired on October 31, 2022. Negotiations began approximately six months later.
An agreement in principle was reached between the parties on December 14, while the threat of a strike loomed for January 3, but ultimately the strike was not called.
However, just before Christmas, union members rejected the agreement in principle regarding the renewal of the collective agreement by 98.1%. CUPE then reported that the salary increases, considered insufficient, irritated its members.
CUPE said it would not make any comments until its members become aware of the agreement in principle.
