(Montreal) One person died and another was injured in an accident on the Metropolitan Expressway in Montreal on Saturday night.
The accident occurred around 9:55 p.m. on Highway 40 East at Boulevard Pie-IX.
According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the vehicle struck an impact damper that separates the highway from the exit ramp at this location.
The driver was trapped inside the accident vehicle, so firefighters had to extract him from the carcass with the help of extrication tools.
“The death of a 41-year-old man was unfortunately noted on the scene,” said Sergeant Marythé Bolduc, a spokesperson for the SQ, on Sunday morning.
The passenger in this vehicle was transported to the hospital center when the paramedics arrived on the scene. His injuries, initially described as serious, are ultimately “minor” and his life is not threatened, said the SQ.
A second vehicle was involved in the accident, but no one in it was injured.
The area was closed to traffic at the end of the evening. It reopened around 3 a.m.
