An eight-year-old child died this Saturday in the Grand Bornand ski area (Haute-Savoie) after falling while skiing, reports France Bleu Pays de Savoie.
At the time of his fall, late in the morning, the child was going down a blue slope, adapted to his level and was wearing a helmet. The little boy then lost control of his skis and – with speed – ended up joining a black slope closed to the public, located right next to it. He rolled down the slope for at least a hundred meters.
The Grand Bornand rescue trackers intervened quickly. The child was transported by helicopter to Grenoble hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.
Originally from a neighboring department of Haute-Savoie, the child had come to ski for the day with his family. An investigation was opened by the Annecy PGHM to understand the circumstances of the accident.
