Amy Schumer reveals she has Cushing’s syndrome

Actress and comedian Amy Schumer has revealed that she has Cushing’s syndrome, several American media report.

In recent weeks, many admirers of the 42-year-old artist have wondered why she had a puffy face.

The star said Friday that it was her fans’ concerns that led her to realize “something was wrong.”

Cushing’s syndrome is an endocrine disease that results in excessive production of cortisol by the adrenal glands located above the kidneys.

Patients who suffer from this syndrome can develop various problems such as weight gain, high blood pressure, diabetes and even heart complications.

Treatments exist to reduce the amount of cortisol in the body, but these vary depending on the exact cause of the syndrome.

“While I was doing interviews for my Hulu show, I was also having magnetic resonance imaging exams that lasted four hours […] I was afraid I wouldn’t live long enough to see my son grow up. So, when I learned what I had and that I was going to be cured, it was the best news imaginable,” says the comedian.
