Amputation of Bruno Rodriguez: the former PSG player “no longer had a life”

It is a tragic story. That of a former professional footballer who suffered several major injuries during his career and who, by dint of repeated infiltrations to hide the pain, found himself with part of his right leg amputated. At only 49 years old, Bruno Rodriguez, who notably played a season at Paris Saint-Germain, could not take it anymore and had to resolve to undergo this irreversible operation. A few days after the operation, the former footballer confided in the columns of the Republican Lorrain and obviously the morale is good. “The operation went well. I take it pretty well. And now I’m moving on to rehabilitation”he says.

After a fine career of almost 15 years which saw him leave for England and Spain, Bruno Rodriguez retired in 2006 and settled in Corsica, in Bastia, the city where he is from. Years at the highest level and injuries that got the better of his right leg, as he explains. “Following all the infiltrations that I made during my career, the sprains that I had, we tried to repair, more or less, what was possible and it couldn’t be done. But there, I was in too much pain. I had no more life, recalls the former striker, forced to take a radical decision to fix the situation: “We made the decision to cut. I was at a standstill. I couldn’t do anything anymore, I couldn’t drive anymore, I couldn’t go out. (…) The last few years have not been pleasant to live with”.

The decision was difficult to make yes but at the same time, I am almost relieved

A choice necessarily complicated to make for Bruno Rodriguez, but faced with a situation that has become so problematic, he thinks he has made the right choice. “The decision was difficult to make. yes but at the same time, I’m almost relieved. I can’t wait to see what it’s going to be like: now there are pretty good materials, so I think it should be fine.”he assures.

Moved by the many tributes received in recent days from his former clubs or former teammates, Bruno Rodriguez will now be able to begin his rehabilitation and get used to his new life.
