The first ceremonies for the celebration of the 78th anniversary of D-Day have begun in Normandy. This year, American veterans are back, after two years of pandemic.

Visitors present despite the rain to pay tribute to the 160,000 D-Day soldiers. On the eve of the 78th anniversary of the operation, the American cemetery at Collevile-sur-Mer (Normandy) welcome veterans and tourists. A duty of memory that some do from this mythical D-Day plane, a twin-engine DC47 Dakota. The device was bought and renovated by the Dutch association, Dutch Dakota. It offers enthusiasts an unobstructed view of the D-Day landing beaches.

A memory that these British veterans hope to pass on to new generations. Marie-Claire Scott was responsible for radio transmissions from the English coast. “I saw young French people come to see us, shake hands to say ‘thank you’. It’s moving”. Some of these veterans, last witnesses of the Second World War, will participate in the commemorations.
