American rapper Wiz Khalifa arrested in Romania for possession of cannabis

The artist was performing at a festival on the Black Sea coast on Saturday, during which he ostentatiously consumed marijuana on stage. In Romania, possession of cannabis is punishable by ten years in prison.

American rapper Wiz Khalifa was arrested in possession of cannabis in Romania, the Romanian prosecutor’s office announced on Sunday, July 14. He was the headliner of the “Beach, Please!” festival that took place in the village of Costinesti, during which he conspicuously consumed it on stage. The American artist was arrested early Sunday, the prosecutor’s office said. In Romania, cannabis is considered a “risky drug” and its possession is punishable by up to ten years in prison.

Videos posted on social media show the rapper being escorted out of the festival by authorities. “The accused was found in possession of more than 18 grams of cannabis and he had consumed (on stage) another quantity (…) in the form of a homemade cigarette”the Romanian Prosecutor’s Office for the Fight against Organized Crime (DIICOT) said in a statement, adding that the investigation is still ongoing.

In a message on Xthe rapper said he had not “I didn’t mean to be disrespectful” to Romania while smoking on stage. “They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a huge joint next time.”he added.
