It’s not just Snoop Dogg at the Paris Olympics: Flavor Flav, the rapper with the clock around his neck and pillar of the American collective Public Enemy, is the ambassador-sponsor of the American women’s water polo team, three-time reigning Olympic champion.

While his group, led by Chuck D, sang in 1988 Don’t Believe the Hype (Don’t believe the hype), Flavor Flav changes to 65 years in “hypeman”, “media tout” of a training lacking light. He even threw himself into the water with the players for a little penalty shootout, as evidenced by a funny video on his Instagram. The senior rapper, swimming cap n° 24 flocked for him, finally succeeds in an attempt, after several “It’s really not easy!” launched in his drawling voice.

His arrival in Paris is imminent. There are four days, having become a jet-setter again, Flavor Flav posted a video on Instagram where we see him partying with the DJ Calvin Harris in Ibiza, screaming “just before I arrived in Paris “. His presence is announced at the MPC (main press center) of the Paris Olympics on Friday morning. 26 July for “talking about his support for the U.S. women’s water polo team.” THE Rebel Without a Cause (Rebel without a causeanother Public Enemy title in 1988) has therefore found a crusade.

“The goal is to leave no one behind, neither these athletes nor their families. On earth, I ran a 200 meters [lors des sélections américaines pour les JO]Flavor Flav, in the water, supports the women’s water polo team”, Snoop Dogg analysis, 52 years, another rap monument US, during a telephone press conference.

The man who will be commentating on the Paris Olympics for the American channel NBC believes that “The time for the great rapprochement has come” between “hip-hop and the Olympics, since breakdancing is now an Olympic event.”

For Flavor Flav, it all started with a message in a bottle thrown on her social networks by Maggie Steffens, captain of a team that needed patrons to travel, find accommodation abroad, etc. “Some people don’t know this, but many Olympic athletes need a second or even third job (me included) !) to live their Olympic dream.”

“I didn’t know much about water polo, I had seen pictures of the Olympics but when my manager showed me this message from Maggie, it touched me,” Flavor Flav confided on the American channel CBS. And there is the rapper, cap askew and fancy glasses, christening himself ambassador, swapping the heavy clock around his neck for a big logo of his new favorite team.

The man who has become a brand, promised on CBS to offer 1 000 dollars to each of its members after the Olympics, as well as a cruise via a company that sponsors its trips, such as the one to Ibiza. Communication around the team then mentioned a contract of “five years of sponsorship”extended to male training, and a “financial contribution” total still confidential. The idea is that the rapper, icon of pop culture, figure of reality TV, attracts other benefactors, in a deal where everyone, including him, wins in terms of image.

Will he convince Taylor Swift? The American pop megastar had given away tickets VIP for her concert in a Parisian suburban venue that will host some Olympic matches for Maggie Steffens’ players, when they came for test matches in France in May. And Flavor Flav was at the beginning of the week in Hamburg (Germany) among the singer’s fans at her show. A coincidence ?

As Taylor Swift’s European tour continues, the Americans’ first match at the Olympics is Saturday against Greece. A rapper-fan in the stands is likely to make some noise. Bring The Noise (Bring back the noise) rapped Public Enemy in 1988.
