American presidential election | Robert Kennedy Jr reveals the name of his running mate

(Oakland) The independent candidate for the American election in November, Robert Kennedy Junior, nephew of the assassinated president “JFK”, revealed Tuesday the name of his running mate, the lawyer and philanthropist Nicole Shanahan.

“I am grateful to Nicole for having […] made the very difficult decision to embark with me on this extraordinary crusade to reconquer our country,” announced the sixty-year-old.

Robert Kennedy Junior is the son of former Democratic Secretary of Justice and presidential candidate Robert “Bobby” Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1968, but also the nephew of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, killed five years earlier.

He wants to offer himself as an alternative to the candidacies of Joe Biden and Donald Trump. A lawyer specializing in environmental issues, he is known for spreading conspiracy theories, particularly on vaccines.

At a campaign rally in Oakland, Calif., on Tuesday, Robert Kennedy Jr. sang the praises of Nicole Shanahan, a “young surf fan” with a “strong spiritual dimension.”

She was married to Sergei Brin, the co-founder of Google.

Robert Kennedy Junior first declared himself a presidential candidate in April 2023, under the banner of the Democratic Party, which would have seen him face President Biden in the primaries.

He then changed his label, which allows the independent candidate to find himself on the ballot alongside Democratic and Republican contenders Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

Robert Kennedy Junior could thus siphon precious votes from the candidates of both parties, with most elections being played out in a pinch.

Many of his relatives denounced his decision to be a candidate and went to the White House in mid-March for an event with Democratic President Joe Biden.
