American poet Louise Glück, Nobel Prize winner for literature, has died at the age of 80

This native of New York became the sixteenth woman to win this prestigious literary award.

This New York native was considered one of the greatest figures in American poetry. She had been rewarded “for his characteristic poetic voice” by the Swedish Academy in 2020, becoming the sixteenth woman to win this literature prize.

His work included 12 collections of poetry and a few volumes of essays on literary writing characterized by central themes such as his quest for clarity, his childhood and family life, and his relationships with his parents and siblings. In 2016, President Obama awarded him the National Humanities Medal during a ceremony at the White House. In France, the poet’s translation remained confidential for a long time, due to lack of publication in volume.
