(Laval) Brandon Gignac hit the target in overtime and the Laval Rocket defeated the Texas Stars 4-3 on Friday night in an American Hockey League duel.
The Rocket was patient as he made changes and Gignac grabbed the puck at his blue line. In speed, the Quebecer fired a sharp and precise shot which deceived the vigilance of Adam Scheel on the side of the mitt.
The Laval team believed they had done enough to get the two points on a regular basis, but Anthony Louis jumped on a throw-back and tied it up with just seven seconds to go.
The Montreal Canadiens’ school club did not fall behind in the game, but they were never able to distance themselves from their opponents.
Cameron Hillis, Kevin Roy and Jean-Sébastien Dea also threaded the needle for the Rocket (8-9-2), who braked his backhand streak to four. Gignac was also the accomplice of a goal.
Louis concluded the clash with two goals for the Stars (7-8-3), who had won over Jean-François Houle’s men two days ago. Ben Gleason completed the score.
Cayden Primeau and Scheel both faced 35 shots, but the Rocket goalie made the extra save that made the difference.
