(Los Angeles) Fans threw baseballs at outfielder Jurickson Profar, then threw trash onto the field that caused a long delay before the San Diego Padres beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-2 , Sunday evening.
The Padres thus tie their National League sectional series at one game everywhere.
Yu Darvish limited the powerful Dodgers offense to one run and three hits in seven innings and Fernando Tatis Jr. hit two homers for the Padres, who tied the series record with six home runs.
David Peralta and Jackson Merrill each hit two-run homers while Xander Bogaerts and Kyle Higashioka had solo runs.
The delay in the middle of the seventh inning was 12 minutes and occurred when two balls were thrown from the stands toward Profar. Trash was also scattered on the warning track next to the Padres’ bullpen. The 54,119 spectators present at Dodger Stadium booed continuously.
Shohei Ohtani finished the night 0-for-4, striking out twice. Mookie Betts was hitless for a sixth straight playoff game.
The Dodgers lost first baseman Freddie Freeman, who left after five innings because of right ankle soreness. He struck out three times and hit a fly ball in two at-bats. Freeman was injured on September 26, but did everything he could to be ready for the start of the playoffs.
Series three of five will now move to San Diego on Tuesday.
